At Goldman Union Camp Institute, we are incredibly blessed to have a fantastic Board of Advisors made up of alumni, camp parents and friends of camp. Our Board works to support the full-time team in alumni engagement, development and much much more.

Every few years, members of our board complete their terms in order for new board members to have the opportunity to support camp. In a “normal” summer, we would welcome our Board to camp for Shabbat to celebrate this transition and thank those rolling off for their service while welcoming new members. In order to maintain a safe and healthy camp community, we are unable to welcome groups of visitors and are, therefore, unable to host our Board. We wanted to take this opportunity to thank our outgoing Board members for all they have done for our GUCI family.

You can find information on our current Board here, but below, we want to take this opportunity to thank our outgoing Board members for all they have done for our GUCI family.

Debra Barton Grant

Debra Barton Grant has been a long-time member of the GUCI family. From camper to staff member to camp parent, Debra has loved reconnecting with so many wonderful alumni and getting the opportunity to call first-time camper parents.

dr. louis cantor

Dr. Louis (Lou) Cantor spent many summers as both a camper and staff member at GUCI, including 25 years as camp doctor and 35 years on the Board. While he has too many favorite memories to count, if he had to pick something it would be “watching our kids grow up at GUCI each summer.” Dr. Cantor and his wife Linda, have three children who all spent time at camp as both campers and staff members.

linda cantor

While Linda did not grow up at GUCI, she has been a huge part of the GUCI family for more than three decades. Linda joined her husband, Dr. Cantor in-residence at camp for many years and loved watching kids blossom during the summer.

rabbi brett krichiver

Rabbi Brett Krichiver attended GUCI as a camper and has been a cherished member of the summer faculty for more than a decade. As a beautiful singer and guitar player, Rabbi Brett’s favorite memories of camp are of song session. His daughter is still a camper and recently finished her first summer in Anaf.

dan nichols

Dan Nichols attended GUCI as a camper and staff member before going on to establish himself as one of the most influential Jewish rock musicians. Dan has been touring Jewish summer camps across North America for the last 15 years, including a stint at GUCI each summer. His favorite memories of GUCI are understandably song session.

steve derringer

Steve Derringer has served on the GUCI Board for many years, including serving as the Board Chair. Though rolling off, Steve will remain part of the Capitol Campaign to support ongoing development programs. Steve grew up at camp as both a camper and staff member with both of his sons going on to be campers and Avodah, and one of them serving as a counselor.

jon bloom

Jon has been part of the GUCI family since the 1970s and has continued to play an important role as a camp parent and Board Member. His favorite GUCI memory is picking up his daughter after her first summer at camp, and she didn’t want to leave.

rabbi mike moskowitz

Rabbi Michael Moskowitz has been part of the GUCI family for more than three decades. Serving as a camper, staff member and beloved faculty member, Rabbi Moskowitz’s children have all continued at camp as both campers and staff members with his oldest child, Ellie, serving as Garin Unit Head this summer. His favorite camp memory is the joy of song session and seeing his children rejoice in this as well.

dr. scott steinberg

Dr. Scott Steinberg – affectionately known as “Scotty Doc” – has been serving as Camp Doctor for more than 16 years after being a counselor in the early 1980s.
