What is Nitzanim or Rookie Weekend?
Nitzanim translates to Bud, beginning, or first sign. Here at GUCI, each of our units are parts of a tree so it only makes sense that our “rookie campers” are our saplings, or youngest trees. They are creating a budding interest in camp and meeting their new lifelong friends.
Your 1st – 4th grader is invited to a mini-camp experience for first-time campers! Taking place at Goldman Union Camp Institute in Zionsville, Indiana, September 28-29; campers will get a taste of a summer at GUCI.
From a traditional GUCI Havdalah, to Bunk-Night-esque activities (grilling out, s’mores and fun activities), and even a chance to climb the Migdal (our climbing tower), it’s a great introduction to camp.
If my child doesn't go to GUCI, can they still come to the event?
YES! This event is designed for first-time campers, so it does not matter if your child has been to any camp, or even a sleepover, this is a great introduction to camp.
How will my child get to GUCI?
You are welcome to bring your child or carpool with another family. Dropoff is from 11 a.m. – Noon on Saturday, September 28 and pickup on Sunday, September 29 is between 10-10:30 a.m.
What does my child need to bring with them?
We will provide a packing list with details, but plan on them bringing bedding, a towel, toiletries, pajamas, a change of clothes and something to get messy in!).
What will my child be doing at camp?
We will have a variety of activities including a GUCI-style Havdalah, electives (art, archery, Migdal/Climbing Tower), and much more!
What if my child takes medication?
We will have a medical professional onsite throughout the weekend to handle medication disbursement.
What if my child has special dietary needs?
Our kitchen is prepared to handle all dietary restrictions. Just let us know in the paperwork and we will make sure your child has plenty to eat!
Can I come and learn about camp too?
YES! All parents are invited for bagels with the Directors on Sunday at 9 a.m. Take a tour of camp and get all of your questions answered.
How much does this cost?
The fee for the experience is $180. This includes food, programming and merchandise. If your camper is new to GUCI, they will go home with a $200 certificate to use at camp for either an overnight program during summer 2025 or summer 2026.
