A Note From Jeremy

As we know, the URJ made the difficult decision to cancel all in-person summer programming for 2020. I have found such strength in all of our virtual GUCI Gatherings and the outpouring of support we have received. Unfortunately, the financial ramifications of this decision are significant for both GUCI and the Union for Reform Judaism (URJ).

As a result of the Covid Pandemic, the URJ was forced to eliminate positions across our system. It is with a heavy heart I share that Michael Kaplan, one of our Assistant Directors and Svetlana Kaplan, our Bookkeeper had their last day on the GUCI team at the end of June. We are extremely grateful for their hard work and dedication to GUCI. They will forever be part of the GUCI family and we wish them well as their pursue new opportunities. If you have questions about camp invoices, tuition, or billing matters, you can direct them to me at jklotz@urj.org.

As many of you know, Dori Singer-Zoot, as NFTY’s Ohio Valley Regional Director has worked as an extension of the GUCI team in recent years. As part of the URJ and NFTY’s restructuring, Dori’s role has shifted to be a part of the GUCI team as an Assistant Director. Dori joined us in 2019 as the Kallah Aleph Garin Unit Head and we are so excited to have her join our full-time team.

I am grateful for our strong GUCI community and look forward to when we can all return to Zionsville.

In the beautiful words of Dan Nichols:

Be strong, let us strengthen one another. Cha-zak, cha-zak,
Be strong, let us strengthen one another.
Be strong, let us celebrate our lives.
Be strong, let us strengthen one another. Cha-zak, cha-zak,
Be strong, be strong, chazak chazak, v’nit chazeik.
