Throughout the summer GUCI is lucky to place host to many guests – faculty, alumni, camp doctors/nurses and artists-in-residence. During Kallah Bet (second session) we had a visit from Alan Goodis, a national touring Jewish musician based in Chicago, who grew up here at camp.
In addition to working with our song leaders, Alan facilitated a week long songwriting workshop with representatives from each unit. Together, they created an original Jewish song about our time together at camp.
Called “In This Place,” the chorus goes:
We are all in this together
We are all in this as one
When you’re lost and alone
Come into this home
You belong
We belong
The song exploration centered around our camp community. More specifically, the campers were able to dig deeper into what it means to be a part of a community, what rules are needed to have a community where everyone can feel welcomed, safe and free to be themselves.
Have a listen to this “In This Place,” recorded by Alan Goodis and GUCI campers.
