Everything You Didn’t Know You Wanted to Know About GUCI Staff

GUCI staff members take the job of guardian at litem very seriously. We do everything in our power to keep all campers safe and healthy, all while creating memories of a carefree and fun summer. Here’s a look into the personalities that run the Migdal, the cabins, the kitchen, and beyond.

Experience

This year we are lucky enough to welcome ten staff members who are new to GUCI this summer. Four of whom are from Israel and two from Uganda. Most of our staff, however, has attended GUCI since they were young campers. Over 60% of this summer’s staff has been on camp nine summers or more!

College

Our staff is comprised almost entirely of college students and recent graduates. They spread all over the Midwest and Northeast, Canada, Israel, and Uganda. The most popular universities attended are Indiana University (16), The Ohio State University (10), and University of Cincinnati (9). They study everything from environmental engineering to theater performance, Afro and African American studies to psychology.

If Staff Ran Camp

We asked staff, “If you were Camp Director for the day, what would you do?” An overwhelming amount would extend menucha. Honorable mentions include: adopt a camp puppy, run an all camp game of capture the flag, cater in Chipotle

*Old traditions to bring back include: singing “The Circle Game,” eating popcorn chicken and chaco-tacos, & drinking bug juice

The Deal with Meals

During staff week, the kitchen experimented with new menu items like southwestern egg rolls. Yet some camp meals are classic and nothing makes a meal better than seeing a camper walk out of the kitchen with a tray of an old favorite.
