Cabin 3 Topic: Opening Doors

Opening Song

Our theme tonight is opening new doors. I opened a very big door by coming to Guci. I did it so I could concur some of my biggest fears; so I can be a more independent person. When we sing Barchu, we are opening a door to praying. –Cydney Platt

Barchu

Our theme is opening new doors. To me, that means challenging fears. One of my fears is jumping down from heights. I challenge myself by jumping down the aqua climb. This is not my first year at camp, so I have climbed the migdal and don’t care about jumping down now! -Eva C.

Maariv Aravim

Our service theme is opening new doors. The prayer, Ahavat Olam relates to opening new doors for me, because this prayer talks about our relationship with G-d. My relationship with G-d is very important. Every time we say the prayer; we our opening up a door to our relationship with G-d. When you open the door, you are able to make the community one. It makes the community one, because everyone has a relationship with G-d and then all of our relationships connect to make one big community. -Sydney Kolker

Ahavat Olam

When we were thinking of themes, someone came up with opening new doors, and that is what we chose! When I first heard our assignment, I thought how can I write a speech about this? Then, I realized, I open new doors for myself all the time. Camp opens new doors for me. Opening a new door for me is trying new things. For example, climbing the migdal for the first time while making new friends at camp is what opening new doors is to me! -Sydney Epstein

Shma/Vahavta

Opening new doors to me means taking new chances. Taking new chances here at Guci gives me a lot of hope. One door I took last year here at Guci was climbling the migdoll and if I never took that door, I would never had felt free. I felt free just like the Israelites did when they sang the Mi Chamocha. –Julia Solomon

Hashkiveinu

Our theme is about opening doors. Guci was a hard door for me to open the first year. Meet new people is what I wanted to do. Guci is a loving community which is why it was not a hard door to open. There are new doors that I open every day at camp, and new chances to take. That is why Guci is an open door to me! -Emily Lander

Amidah (Avot VImahot, Gvurot, Kedushat Hashem)

Guci is a new door for everyone. Inside, is a happy and peaceful community. As I read in a book, there are two kinds of happiness, the fake happiness and the real happiness. The Guci door is the real happiness for everyone who comes through it. It brings a smile on your face. When people open the fake happiness door, they turn around and shut it….because, everyone wants real happiness here at Guci! -Sophie S.

Shalom Rav

When you come to Guci, you open a new door to a new world. Last year when I came to Guci, I did not know what to expect. I made lots of new friends and did lots of fun things, just like this year! It was so much fun! Also, Shabbat here is the best. We sing songs, eat pie, and do lots of other fun things! Katy R.

Silent Prayer, Yihyu Lratzon

When I first came to camp and climbed the migdal, I went all the way up and then I was scared to come down. I am sure other people felt that way too. I finally scooted off the edge and I was supposed to slowly be coming back down to the ground. This opened a door because now when I climb the migdal, I’m not scared to come down! –Katie Silver

Life is an open door, and life has it’s ups and downs. Just like an art project, it’s a process. You should not look forward at what the art project will end up like, nor should you look to the future. Focus on the present, whatever happens – happens. –Leah Goldstein

Mourners Kaddish

Guci has opened new doors for me. It has helped me get over some of my fears. I can get over my spiders while enjoying Jewish prayers in the forest. -Emma N.
